About the Department

Decades of Dedicated Women's Healthcare in Karachi

Our Mission

Quality Care, Without Exception

Our mission is to provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based obstetric and gynaecological care to all women who come to us — regardless of their background, means, or place of origin. We believe every woman deserves a dignified and supported journey through pregnancy, childbirth, and gynaecological health.

As part of a public teaching hospital, we also hold a responsibility to educate the next generation of specialist doctors, nurses, and midwives who will serve Pakistan's healthcare needs.

Our Vision

A Healthier Future for Women of Pakistan

We envision a Karachi — and a Pakistan — where no woman faces a preventable maternal death or life-altering gynaecological condition for lack of access to quality care. Ward 8 strives to be a centre of clinical excellence, education, and community health.

Through innovation, training, and community outreach, we aim to continuously raise the standard of women's healthcare across the city and the region.

What We Stand For

Our Core Values

Compassion

We treat every patient with kindness, empathy, and respect, honouring the trust families place in our care.

Safety

Clinical protocols and continuous training ensure the highest standards of safety for mothers and newborns.

Excellence

As a teaching institution, we are committed to evidence-based medicine and continuous clinical improvement.

Equity

All women deserve quality care regardless of background or financial circumstance. Our services are free for all.

Message from the Head of Department

A Word of Welcome

"It is both a privilege and a responsibility to lead this department at one of Pakistan's most respected public teaching hospitals. Ward 8 has long been a place where women in their most vulnerable moments receive not just clinical care, but genuine human compassion.

We are proud of our skilled, committed team — consultants, trainees, nurses, and support staff — who work tirelessly around the clock. We continue to invest in training, equipment, and patient experience to ensure that every woman who walks through our doors receives the best care we can offer.

To our patients and their families: you are in safe and caring hands."

Our History

A Long Legacy of Service

Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre has been a cornerstone of healthcare in Karachi since its establishment. The Department of Gynaecology & Obstetrics — Ward 8 — has served as one of the city's primary referral centres for maternal and women's health for decades.

Over the years, the department has expanded its clinical services, diagnostic capabilities, and postgraduate training programme, producing generations of obstetricians, gynaecologists, and nurses who serve communities across Pakistan.

Today, Ward 8 handles hundreds of deliveries and gynaecological procedures every month, remaining deeply committed to its founding purpose: free, high-quality healthcare for all women.
